Dominique Lanctôt
M.Ps, PhD, Psychologist
Dr. Dominique Lanctôt is a psychologist in private practice and co-founder of Alphapsy.ca, a clinical psychology service center located in downtown Montreal. She received her Master’s degree in psychology from the University of Montreal in 1984 and her doctorate from the University of Quebec at Montreal in 2012. Dr. Lanctôt has been a member of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec since 1984 and has been working in the field of psychology for over 25 years. She offers psychotherapy to adult clients experiencing difficulties related to anxiety, stress, depressive symptoms, relationship conflicts, life transitions, low self-esteem, anger management. She also has expertise in helping people with cancer manage their emotions in the face of diagnosis and in managing the stress resulting from treatment.
Her doctoral studies focused on the effects of a novel yoga program on the quality of life of people with breast cancer. Dr. Lanctôt also collaborates with Professor Gilles Dupuis of the Université du Québec à Montréal as well as other researchers, notably on health research projects stemming from her doctoral thesis published in 2015. She has also completed APA-recognized trainings on third wave therapies in psychology: “The New Science of Resiliency and its Clinical Application” offered by the Henry Benson Institute at Harvard University (2013) as well as “The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction 6 day teacher training-Petaluma, CA.USA (2014)”.
Dr. Lanctot has given numerous presentations and lectures in health psychology at conferences and in several hospitals and universities in Quebec and Belgium. She has also made several media appearances (Radio-Canada and TQS) in her field of expertise and has been actively involved in the community by co-founding a free support program for women with breast cancer (2003 to 2008).
Finally, she is the creator and co-author of the book “Tu n’es pas seule” l’expérience du cancer, paroles de femmes, reissued for the third time in January 2016 in a digital version, the proceeds of which are donated to the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.
Her clinical approach is cognitive-behavioral and, depending on the needs and preferences of her clients, she integrates techniques based on the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program which are recognized as effective in dealing with many issues.
